inFAMOUS 2: Why it Feels so Good to be so Bad [PS3]

Cole MacGrath (no, he’s not a country singer) or better known as “The Electric Man” as one of the lamest super hero names ever, took a trip down south to the recovering city of New Orlea—err New Marais where he has to prepare for the final showdown between him and the Beast! He will also get a chance to smack down some inbred militia hicks and terrorize the kindly (or asshole-ish) citizens of this hedonistic city. Cole also brought his buddy, who has an infinitely cooler name, Zeke to the city since apparently there’s no more job market for Fat Elvis impersonators in the economy. New game means new powers; Cole gets tons of powers and plenty of opportunity to unleash hell.
Not only a new town, Cole makes some new friends, the best kind of new friends, hot chicks with superpowers! These fine vixens will either guide you to a higher calling or lead you to have some fun with your powers, which will also influence Cole’s appearance and how his sweet ass electric powers evolve. The antagonist through most of the game is a conservative leader named Joseph Bertrand III, a mean old coot with a haircut for his midlife crisis three decades too late. The pace of the story doesn’t let you forget about the ultimate baddy, the Beast, who seems to like long destructive walks along the eastern seaboard.
How your powers look and feel depends on the choices you make in New Marais. Good guys get the vanilla blue electricity; bad guys get an orange-reddish color. The play styles are much different too. The good path specializes on precise bolts of lightning, letting them avoid the townspeople while laying the smack down. Bad guys get some nasty area of effect abilities that have no regard for human life, which is nice since the city is populated exclusively by hipsters and hobos. There are tons of side missions to keep you playing and Sucker Punch added a new system that allows players to submit custom missions that provide a potentially limitless amount of content.
Infamous 2 rounds out the franchise very nicely, giving the world an amazing sandbox with superpowers and chronicling one of the greatest bromances in gaming history. Sucker Punch did a good job with the new powers keeping a fresh look and feel with this familiar powerset. The new female supers caught my attention and the rich story telling kept me interested. Plus wreaking havoc around the city (and saving the citizens from those who would) when I was uber-baked was untold amounts of fun. Time to give this game a score; better crank the voltage to…
6.3 out of 7 blunts
