Well you guessed it my imaginary readers, Mesmer will be the eighth and final class! Big surprise right? Pretty clever of them to bring back their most iconic class from guild wars 1, impressive. however, this info was leaked to the public before Arena.net had a chance to say, "Gotcha! It was the Mesmer the whole time! Tehe." A whole video was discovered showing some of the skills that come with being a Mesmer. To Arena.nets credit they didn't try and hide the video or track it down and punish whoever posted it they just admitted what it was and said ,"Oops."
Now if you haven't heard of guild wars before allow me to lay it down for you. Guild wars 2, like its predecessor, will be free to play and very casual friendly. The fine people over at Arena.net have created a game where you can play on any server in any number of guilds with any of your friends for free. No longer will you have to create an alt to play with your friend on a different server, no longer will you have to leave your favorite guild to join that hardcore PVP guild.
Now you can have both with only one payment of the usual $59.99 price tag. But enough about that. Here is the Mesmer.
WEAPONS
-Main Hand: Sword, Scepter
-Off Hand: Focus, Pistol, Sword, Torch
-Two Handed: Staff, Greatsword
CLONE
-Low health and damage-Same name and looks as you
-For creating deception and shatter ability
PHANTASM
-Higher health and significant damage then clones
-Unique names and purple glowing version of yourself
-Specific attacks or "in world" hexes
Don't forget to check the website for some videos of some of the skills for the Mesmer, like a group cast invisiblity, teleport and the Mesmer condition Confusion, which makes it so your enemies take damage when the skill is cast. Oh yeah and its stackable.
SNEAK PEAK
at some skills
at some skills
Chaos Storm- Chaos storm is a staff attack that gives out random conditions to your enemies and random boons (buffs) to your allies
Mantras
Spells with long cast times that let you save up a spell to be insta-cast whenever you want. It can even be cast in the middle of a spell your already casting without interrupting it. Now let me clarify what Arena.net means when they say "long" cast time. Some may be used to some of the 8 second cast times in such games as WoW. Well in Guild Wars 2 long cast times are only around 3 seconds, and do you remember those things called global cool downs? Guild Wars 2 doesn't think you should have to wait for anything even global cool downs. Arena.net has so much in store for us at such a good price it seems almost too good to be true.
Jon Peters Game Designer: I hates global cool downs with the passion of 1000 fiery suns. |
On a closing note: I'd like to mention a few more things from the Reddit AMA.
(mountains, lots of water, caves and trebuchets) |
-WvWvW will have 500 players per map for a total of 4 maps
-It will take approximately 10+ mins to sprint across
-It will take approximately 10+ mins to sprint across
Good Guy Jon |
One last question stuck out in my mind. When asked if it was viable to take a group of dagger rangers into a dungeon. Jon replied, "Our goal has always been how you play your profession is more important than who you bring with you."
